Kata

Please Note: All of the Video links in the first column are available, but many of the links in the other columns are no longer available.

There are 26 formal kata in the Shotkan system. Practice of kata helps perfect the karateka's technique, and develops "muscle memory". After much practice, the karateka is able to use many of these techiques, in sequence, even in an emergency situation.

Click on the links below for kata videos. The videos in the first column are kata all performed by Harokazu Kanazawa and are used as a standard reference by many karateka. The second column are videos showing bunkai (application) for the respective kata. The videos in the third column are early vidieos of kata.
